October brings with it chilly nights, bonfires, bowls of chili, pumpkins, and the sounds of crunchy fallen leaves. Orange is everywhere!
Monochromatic style means that you use different hues of the same color in your creation. This is seen in fashion and home décor as well as art. It allows you the freedom to mix and match patterns without worrying about competing colors. Megan mixes fleur de lis, art deco, honeycombs, and stripes successfully in her layout. While you may not want to wear all of these patterns together on your outfit, on a scrapbook page, they work!
Using different shades of the same color is not enough though. The use of texture and layer is important when using one color palette to give your page depth and avoid “flatness”. Tina and Karen use “white” space, or in this case “orange” space successfully, while mimicking the rich textures of autumn to bring the focus to the photos. And, don’t limit yourself to paper embellishments to find what you need. Have a scavenger hunt, and use your kids to help you find items around the house in the color you are using. Bringing in shadows, material, curl, wrinkles, and objects (such as hair clips or coins) are just some of the ways to give your page a deep personality and make people want to take a closer look.
