Western Wranglers, Yee-Haw!

Howdy scrap booking partners! Who doesn’t love a great Western themed project? Cowboys, horses, ropes, spurs….it’s all apart of that great American Rodeo magic! Our readers really grabbed their hat and boots on these projects! Who wouldn’t crack a big Texan sized smile when they see Jan Barlow’s layout of a Wanted Man? Adding such imagination and an alter ego is part of the fun in dreaming up layouts using a Western theme. It brings out the inner cowboy and cowgirl in all of us! Yee-haw!

Wanted by Jan Barlow

Digital Supplies: Papers: Carving More Memories by Patricia Christensen (Weeds & Wildflowers); Memories by Melissa Bennett (Sweet Shop Designs) Brads: Harvest Time by Kim Hill (CG Essentials) Fonts: Nashville, SBC Distressed Typewriter Masks: Tattered Paper 1 by Anna Aspnes (Designer Digitals); Grunge Frame 1 by Jessica Sprague Brushes: Texture Tiles 1 by Noctourniquet; Grunge Brushes (coffee stains) by M Babic Software: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.

Design Notes: Use your eraser tool with a "dry brush" brush setting to distress a font or shape (like the pointed fingers in my layout) for a more distressed look.

Journaling: Wanted Singer-Songwriter Seen at local rodeos, saloons, hoedowns and bar-b-ques, we’re lookin’ for this family man who has a hankerin’ for entertaining a crowd with his own tunes. Some are lively and some are soothin’ – all seem to be straight from the heart. There’s a posse of folks that take a shine to him and de-sire to haul him in. Jest to say thanks. (Cooks up some might fine grub, too.)

Like Mother, Like Daughter by Jennifer Evans

Supplies: Paper: Carolees Creations, Alphabet Stickers: K & Company, Journaling Spots: Prima, Paint: Plaid Enterprises, Glitter Glue: Ranger Industries, Ink: Tim Holtz (Ranger Industries), Adhesives: Zig Memory Systems (Kuretake), Other: silk flowers, lace, burlap, black gel pen.

Design Notes: Did you know you could use silk flowers on your pages? Not all of them of course some tend to smash but if you choose fatter ones they work beautifully. My tip for this is to buy white flowers because you can alter them anyway you please with stamps, stickles, water colors and acrylic paints. On this page the yellow flowers were white I painted them and added stickles to all of them for an extra touch. The bonus part of using acrylic paint is that it hardens flower and will not allow it to smash!
