Haro, Spain

Each month, ScrapStreet travels to a new street, taking inspiration from that particular location. We learn a bit about our stop and try to infuse that knowledge and attitude in our creations. The monthly challenges encourage us to shake up our scrapping, trying new techniques, themes, and altered items as well as cards and color combinations. Travel along with us as we spend June enjoying the Battle of the Wine.

Each year in June thousands celebrate the feast of the saint San Pedro with a wine festival in the town of Haro in the La Rioja region of northern Spain. The week long celebration begins with contests, crafts, food, and wine. It ends on June 29th with a wine battle after morning mass. Locals and visitors dress entirely in white and march through town to the Cliffs of Bilibio where the service takes place. Immediately afterwards, the Batalla del Vino begins with everyone tossing and spraying thousands of gallons of wine on each other until all are soaked from head to foot. The purple stained, but happy, participants enjoy a day of festivities before heading home to enjoy an evening glass of wine.
