Discovery Drive

Happy New Year, and welcome to a brand new Discovery Drive! Please come on in, sit by the fire and meet our newest and totally fun and merry discovery, Misty Willis! This Texan girl packs a punch and a sense of humor - on and off the page! If you were to walk by a piece of Misty’s in an art gallery, you'd have to stop to see more, proclaiming, "Wow!" Then you'd wait and watch and be drawn into her world of scrappy details. I love that her pages really pop and then bring you home with layers of detail. Along with layers, come Misty's depth; how fun to mix holes and dimensional embellishments on one page! (I'm a die-hard polka dot lover in real life and on the page, so you can see where I'd go with this!)

But that's not it. Well, that's not only it! With the pop and the humor, sensitivity and layers, Misty goes well beyond the paper and the page to preserve her memories. She says she doesn't have a style (these are my favorite artists to write about!) I say she doesn't need a name for her style - we can call it beautiful. We can call it clean. We can call it detailed and layered. We can call it: take a second look; it won't be what you expect!

Any which way, Misty pleases with paper. Congratulations, Misty, you've pleased me! Now, if we can just get you to show us those boy pages! Many thanks for sharing your work and many wishes to future success!

Bloom and Grow by Misty Willis

Supplies: Paper, Cardstock, Stickers: October Afternoon, Flowers: Sassafras Lass, Petaloo, Pin: Maya Road.

Editor's Notes: It's been quite a while since I've seen a combination of primary colors look so elegant. Try mixing all sorts of different color combos to find elegance on your next page.

Design Notes: I used an apron lace edge punch to get the lacing holes in which I laced the silky ribbon through.

Innocence by Misty Willis

Supplies: Paper: My Mind's Eye, Flower: Prima Marketing, Pearls: Say it in Pearls, Letters: American Crafts, Other: rub-on.

Journaling: (hidden on the card behind my lacing) Skye, you are growing up so fast! You are two years old in this photo and it seems like you should still be tiny! I love your smile, your giggles, your super sweet disposition... I love everything about you! God blessed us so much when He gave you to us... you brighten our days even when it is raining! I hope you hang on to your sweet innocence for years to come.

A is for Apple by Misty Willis

Supplies: Paper: Jillibean Soup, Cardstock: Bazzil Basics Paper, Chipboard: Pebbles Inc., Flower: Queen & Co.

Design Notes: I used 1/2 inch strips of the double sided paper to create a different effect for the photo mat.

Journaling: You adore your new school clothes. Most especially your apple dress. Mommy had to make you a special bow for you to wear with your dress for picture day! Everyone thought you were a "Little Doll"!

My Name is Misty...aka mommyof5kidz. I am a SAHM of 5 beautiful kiddos and I have a small custom cake shop that keeps me busy when they don't. I was blessed with a desire to create...whether it is a sculpture out of cake, or my PASSION... a work of art out of paper. I have been scrapbooking for 13 years and I have loved every minute of it. While my husband proclaims that my hobby is a waste of time and money, he secretly buys me things like my new Gypsy.

I don't know that I have a "style", but I do know that I LOVE beautiful things. Flowers, bling, lace, glitter and sparkle are things that catch my eye and inspire me. I have to admit, my 3 boys feel very unloved in the scrappy world! One or all five of my children will surely be the subject of about 95% of my layouts, because, needless to say, "Kodak Moments" are not a rarity in my house! My kiddos are NOT camera shy in any way. They always expect Mom to be wielding her trusty Camera! I am very fortunate to have a family who will "strike a pose" on my demand for my next layout!

Stop by my blog, Another Day in Paradise, to check out more about me and my work!
