Sweet Treats

We know you are an amazingly talented artist but how did you get your start in this industry?

I tried many art ventures over the years, some required art classes throughout school, an awesome AP Studio Art class in high school and Life Drawing in college (if you can draw a human body, you can draw anything!), and lots of experimentation on the computer. I started playing with computer art in elementary school, went to Corel in the mid 90's and then Photoshop, Illustrator, and Paint Shop Pro from there. I am 100% self-taught with digital programs and the like. There are LOTS of helpful tutorials out there on the internet.

I was inspired to try designing clip art around 2003 through, and I just couldn't seem to find a method that I liked. I ended up creating designer clipart for MyGraficO in 2009, and then when I stumbled across detailed digi stamps I decided to try out sketching a few. I tried and tried, and then finally one day something just popped out of the page. I was hooked! I was a bit nervous to open my own shop...I tried Etsy in early February 2010, and worked on a blog that I felt wasn't very successful. I read lots of articles on getting my shop going, kept faith, and before I knew it I had customers! Since then, I've moved my shop to my own little corner on the web, opened a Design Team and Challenge blog in April (thank you Ann Vento)...and I have loved every minute of it.

Enchanted Forest Set by Stacey Michaud

Supplies: Paper: Basic Grey, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Ribbon: Maya Road, Making Memories, Pin: Maya Road, Bling: Basic Grey, Colored Pencils: EK Success, Font: Tinker Toy. Digital Supplies: Stamp: Mel Jen Designs.

Design Notes: I don't own any Copics or good markers for coloring, but that didn't stop me from adding color to these precious digital stamps. I used Photoshop Elements and even burned the edges to give each stamp depth. Add in some simple text and you have simple, yet adorable mini cards.

Miss You by Diana Brodeur

Supplies: Paper, Flowers, Bling, Stamp, Sticker, Ink: 3Birds Design, Specialty Paint: Tattered Angels, Smooch (Clearsnap), Tsukineko, Glitter Glue: Ranger Industries, Cardstock: Craft Essentials (Jo-Ann) Digital Supplies: Stamp: Mel Jen Designs.

Design Notes: These cute images are perfect for all sorts of cards, and are an easy way to put one together quickly, if you need one last minute. Again, rather than color the image in I sprayed it a few times with color spray and outlined with glitter glue. Cute results very quickly!
