Precious Princesses

If you have a little girl at home, chances are, she is a princess. And if she likes the color pink, frilly dresses, and tiaras, it's a sure thing. After all, who wouldn't like to live in the lap of luxury, flit around with cute forest animals, and wear princess gear all day long. Maybe you, yourself, were a princess once and managed to hold onto that even after growing up. Whether it's a layout of your little darling or of yourself, all the layouts here share everyone's love of pretty dresses, delicate accessories, and privileged attitudes. What is it about dressing like a princess that makes us feel like one? Is the old adage true, that the clothes make the man? Does putting on that special outfit transform us to another realm, where for that one day we are special and the world is magical?

Halloween is an ancient holiday that has managed to stick around into modern times for that same reason; it's fun to dress up and become someone else, even for a few brief moments. But dressing up like a princess isn't limited to just holidays and costume parties. We see little girls walking around in princess dresses all the time, and if more people did it more often, maybe the world would be a happier, more cheerful place.

Play by Amy Martin

Supplies: Flowers, Tag, Clock Face: Making Memories, Ribbon: May Arts. Digital Supplies: Flowers, Folder: Junk Drawer by Kenner Road (Two Peas in a Bucket), Paper: Art Blends by Anne deJong, Chloe by Holly Designs (Oscraps), Wordart, Alphabet: Teeny Type by CD Muckosky (The Lilypad), Paint: Artistic Sprays by Micheline Martin (CatScrap), Font: 1942 Report, Software: PaintShopPro vXII.

Design Notes: This is our daughter, decked out for her own birthday party... what little princess doesn't need a huge flower in her hair?! The big flowers were used to keep with the theme of the big flower in her hair. This is a somewhat hybrid layout in that the tags and little flowers are traditional products.

Editor's Note: I love all the layering Amy used to create the flowers. And I think the splatter paint is perfect here, to capture the playful nature of the layout, much as the title suggest.

Journaling: Your birthday and time to play. Happy in your new headband. Happy in your new tutu. Happy in your skin even if a year older.

Fairy Princess by Sophia Allison

Supplies: Paper: Imaginisce, Cardstock: Colormate, Chipboard: Enmarc, Bling: Heidi Swapp, Glitter Glue: Tombow, Other: rub-ons, glitter. Digital Supplies: Kit: Snapshot Frames Brush Kit by Rhonna Farrer, Software: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.

Design Notes: I added glue to my chipboard title and sprinkled glitter on top of it. 3D my fussy cutting of the castles and chariots to create a border. I added a digital brush around my photos as a border, and I distressed the edges of my PP.

Fashion Frenzy by Brenda Johnston

Supplies: Paper: KI Memories, Luxe Designs, SEI, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Alphabet Stickers: American Crafts, Arctic Frog, Rub-Ons: Doodlebug Design, Flowers: Prima Marketing, Brads: American Crafts, Sketch: Becky Higgins, Other: ribbon. Tools: Corner Rounder: We R Memory Keepers.

Design Notes: I love using Becky Higgins' sketches. They are simple and help me get a layout done quickly. I used rub-ons directly on the pictures to help me remember what they called each outfit.

Journaling: My girls love to play dress up! I wanted to capture the names of each of the outfits they play in regularly. My favorite outfit is the "bad guy." I have no idea where she came up with that name!
