Welcome to Discovery Drive! I'd like to introduce you to Jessy Simonson, an authentic, well-traveled scrapbooker from the North. You just gotta love her go-with-the-flow and readily-themed designs. I guess you never know what you're going to get! See, it seems that Jessy easily scraps in the moment - takes her photographs and her memories and find the paper, supplies and design style to match. Examples? Take a look at Liberty Calling: the memory takes place in the likes of an English phone booth, her layout takes on a dim, nostalgic, subdued color palate (and one adorable themed tag!) Move to another layout, Childhood is a Wonderland, and she designs with a cute and bright child-like design, bold and primary color palate and silly but sensible shapes all over!
I love that scrap-in-the-moment feel, the 'expect the unexpected', can-do style. I'd like to call it real-life scrapping. We see life in color, in mood and emotion, with all of our senses. We do our best to capture as much of that "on film" as possible. When Jessy scraps, it's an extension of those senses and feelings.
Congratulations, Jessy! I thoroughly enjoyed a short glimpse of your scrapbook at home. We wish you much success and many more travels!

Liberty Calling by Jessy Simonson
Supplies: Papers, Die-Cuts: Graphic 45, Clasps, Game Spinners: Tim Holtz, , Tool: Edge Distresser (Heidi Swapp), Other: compass mask - hand cut from paper, chalk ink.
Design Notes: My favorite detail of this layout is the tag hanging from the clasp. It has a picture of a woman as Lady Liberty and says "Hello is this Liberty Speaking" I laugh because we are three Americans in a London phone booth!
Journaling: While snapping a few city scene photos I was inspired to cram us all into a trademark red phone booth. Despite locals laughing or giving us strange looks we got a great pic! It's one of my favorites!

Childhood is a Wonderland by Jessy Simonson
Supplies: Papers: American Crafts, Glitter: Ranger, Letters: Die Cuts With a View, Other: cardstock, stickers.
Design Notes: I hand cut everything from the shape of this layout to all the little flowers.
Journaling: 2009 Tyler Jr. & Sandra - 4 years old

Fabulous by Jessy Simonson
Supplies: Papers: BasicGrey, Flowers: Prima Marketing, Pearls: Perfect Pearls, Specialty Ink: Tattered Angels, Tools: Edge Distresser (Heidi Swapp), Storybook Cartridge (Cricut), Other: handcut flourishes, cardstock, silver dimensional paint.
Design Notes: Dimensional paint has taken on a whole new use for me! On this layout I used it to create "faux bling" flourishes and clasps!
Editor's Note: With glowing photograph colors and a lovely dark red flower accent, I almost forgot that the rest of this layout is monochromatic! |
