Over the past two months, we have covered the basics of typography, learned a little about style and design, and pointed out key aspects of the technique to keep in mind when using typography on your layouts or cards. This month, I am letting the technique speak for itself. In the following pages, you will see a wide variety of uses on layouts with this great technique. From full paper pages, to hybrid, and on to full digital, the one constant is the beautiful use of typography. I am going to try not to dull you with too much extra information, instead letting the layouts “communicate with type”.

I love letter stickers! If you could see my stash of stickers, you would probably laugh at how many I have and the vast variety that I have collected. Being a hybrid gal, I really don’t even need to buy them as I design plenty of my own, but there is just something about combining different colors and fonts that make pages just “pop”! Kristii’s layout caught my eye immediately because of the brightness of the page and the many different fonts. It explodes off the page and captures your attention immediately! Lisa’s layout, “Talk 2 Me” made me “LOL” because it reminded me so much of my younger brother. The combination of the text lingo and the phone paraphernalia makes this layout’s whole story line complete. Amanda’s idea made me stop and look at her layout for at least a full 5 mins. I love how she used the negatives of her stickers as a part of her design.

Making Your Way by Kristii Lockart

Supplies: Papers: Jenni Bowlin Studios, October Afternoon, Stickers: Jenni Bowlin Studios, Sassafrass Lass, American Crafts, Making Memories, Rub-Ons: October Afternoon, Pen: American Crafts, Other: buttons.

Design Notes: I wanted to make a fun, colorful layout to represent the comedy and funny atmosphere of the show, "Cheers". I used various colorful alphas from my stash to help me achieve the desired effect and the rest of the layout fell into place. My sweet daughter has had such a difficult year and I want to encourage her every chance I get. I hope she looks on this layout in the future and sees just how proud I am of her!!! She is amazing!!

Journaling: Title and journaling from the theme song to "Cheers". Making your way in the world today takes everything you got ... and you're giving it your all girl! - moving in - 6/2009

Talk 2 Me by Lisa Day

Supplies: Papers, Stickers, Flair, Pen: American Crafts, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper.

Design Notes: To create this page I cut out the speak bubbles from the American Crafts paper and then used some rub-ons to write things my nephew says or text on his phone. I wanted this to be a very fun teen page that felt very technically modern (if that's such a thing!)

Wild at Heart by Amanda Johnson

Supplies: Papers: Sassafras Lass, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Stickers: American Crafts, BasicGrey, Making Memories; Pen: Uniball, Other: rub-ons, stamp, sewing machine, thread.

Design Notes: Don't neglect using the negatives on stickers. Also, mixing different fonts adds for more interest in a simple design.

Journaling: Phil likes to do manly, daring things in the great outdoors. I think he feels closer to God when he's out in his creation.
