The Next Step
A few years back there was a movement in the scrapbooking world aimed at validating our hobby. We were encouraged to call ourselves “scrapbook artists”. While I am not sure if I fall into that category, there are talented people out there who truly create art, especially these days. Scrapbooking has become much more than just paper and glue. Think mists, gesso, glaze and paint. All those wonderful mediums that come straight from the art supply store are all the rage right now. Based on this hot trend, it makes sense that there would be a new blog dedicated to mixed-medium crafting. It is called The Next Step. I think it should be called A Step Above because the site and team are just amazing!
After only a few minutes on the site, I often have to pick up my jaw from the floor. It is safe to say that I am left awe-stricken at the stunning and one-of-a-kind projects that the team creates. Honestly, I would have no idea how to do most of the techniques that are shown. But, that is not a barrier anymore because the team presents fabulous examples and easy-to-follow tutorials! The girls have used foil, fabric, alcohol inks and paper to design the most wonderful creations.
The positive atmosphere over at the site really stands out. It is all about sharing at The Next Step blog! The gals could just keep all their awesome crafting secrets to themselves, but they really enjoy the teaching and learning process. You immediately get a sense of how much each team member enjoys, respects, and savors the creative process. I first stumbled upon scrapbooking after experimenting with paint and small pieces of furniture. I really loved being artsy, and the projects on the blog make me yearn for those days again.
This month’s challenge involves using candy treat wrappers in an inventive way. Buckle your seat belts and get ready to be wowed at the team’s interpretations. Lucy, the blog co-founder, is one of my favorites in this industry. When you see her work, you will agree that she totally earns the title of scrapbook artist.
