How Can You Not?

Have you ever noticed a friend using a phrase over and over?  And did you notice how quickly you picked it up?  Language is alive--it is always growing and changing.  New words are added every year and others fade out of existence.  Not sure I am telling the truth?  Try reading a bit of Shakespeare and remind yourself that there is slang in there somewhere.

As a college professor, I find myself picking up phrases from my students and then rolling my eyes at myself.  I really am too old to use "hook up" but am enjoying the current favorite "chile, please."  I can so work that one!

This summer as my best (or bestest to my 10yo daughter) friends gathered to enjoy the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) show, we spent close to a week in a shared home.  We all quickly picked up on a Staceyism.  At every shopping moment, she was always in and simply asked "how can you not?" when contemplating a purchase.  And we were off and running.

How Can You Not? by Stacey Michaud

Supplies: Paper: Making Memories, Studio Calico, BasicGrey, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Buttons: Making Memories, Chipboard, Alphabet: Basic Grey, Bling: Kaisercraft, Journaling Card: Jenni Bowlin Studio.

Design Notes: I have a habit of using this phrase often. But really, when you notice things that amaze you, how can you not comment on them? In order to include a lot of journaling on this layout, I printed directly on my cardstock. I cut the patterned paper to make a frame for the photo!

Journaling: How can you not realize how lucky you are? Take advantage of all your opportunities. Giggle everyday at your husband & kids. Give Cooper a billion belly rubs. Share your problems & wildest dreams with your friends. Love what you do for a living, knowing that you make a difference. Recognize each of your family member's strengths. Create on a daily basis. Shop when the price is right. Take the bad, having faith there is growth to be had. Believe that there is a higher power. Kiss your babies often. Feel excitement about the future. How can you not smile and feel joy, knowing that you are content.

Supplies: Paper, Stickers, Felties: Sassafrass Lass, Ink: Clearsnap.

Design Notes: Designing a layout about a fun topic?  Use products that are bold and fun, too.  It adds instant emotion.

Journaling: After getting you out of the tub, putting your pj's and diaper on, I was cleaning up when you decided to take another bath! And I thought my day was over. Corey 11/07

Digital Supplies: Paper from Dirty Linens by Katie Pertiet, Brush from 12x12 Artist Edges No. 3 by Anna Aspnes, Alpha from Between the Lines Alpha No. 2 by Katie Pertiet, Embellishments from Journaling Challenge Freebie 01-18-09 by Pattie Knox, Sweet Treats by Katie Pertiet, Buttoned Up by Katie Pertiet, Little Flip Flops by Katie Pertiet, Library Card Collection by Katie Pertiet, Paper Clip from Clip Its! No. 3 By Pattie Knox, Template from Layered Template No. 20 by Ali Edwards (all at Designer Digitals), Font: Tahoma.

Design Notes: As I thought about the topic, I realized that it would make a great page to include in my "all about me" album. A snapshot of things I find absolutely irresistible. I included pictures and digital embellishments that embodied the items on the list. I thought about numbering each of the items, but decided to make the page more interactive, and let the reader match the images to the list items.

Journaling: How can you not:  1. sigh with pleasure as you slip into a bubblebath 2. have a favorite color 3. be passionate about something 4. play with your kids' toys 5. decorate for the changing seasons 6. want to cuddle a sleeping baby 7. eat chocolate 8. love finding the perfect pair of shoes 9. sing along with the radio 10. eat popcorn while watching a movie
