Digital Discovery

Lindsey Krauss

Welcome to a very special installment of Digital Discovery – the pet lovers’ extraordinaire! No, it wasn’t planned to be so this month, but what a wonderful scrapper did I find this March! Meet Doris Cheong, digital scrapbooker, international charmer, and cat lover to boot!

As I was reviewing work for digital discoveries and stumbled upon Doris, sure, I noticed one very cute cat layout (the cup of tea one – it cracked me up and warmed me inside at the same time!) Never then did I even realize what a cat lover she really was! Looking at her pages, you don’t get the sense that she’s scrapping her pet, but rather that she’s recording memories of a family member. If you’ve hung with us on the Streets, you know just how we value pet-lovers!

You can tell her heart is just as big as her digital canvas, too. Read her stories, learn about her cats and the love she pours into them, bet it’s the same love and passion she pixellates onto her digital layouts. So sweet, so funny, so much fun to watch. The cats and Doris, alike!

Congratulations, once again, Ms. Doris. Keep on loving your cats, scrapping your thoughts and doing what you do best. We hope you feel the full appreciation of everything you do!

Design notes: The photo isn’t very good, so I duplicated it, and played with the blending mode, finally using the soft light mode to get the look I wanted.

Homeless But Not Hungry by Doris Cheong. Digital Supplies: Choubinett, Kathy Winters, Krists Mettler.

Journaling: His name is Shortail, like the title says he's homeless but not hungry. We fed him and the rest at least twice a day. His home is in the garden. The ear was cut as an identification that he was been neutered. This photo was taken when he was at home with me to complete his medication. He was down with a bad flu. A kind lady sent him to the Vet and I volunteered to house him for 6 days. I am glad that I had 6 days with him. Now we are friends and I visit him daily.

Life is Like a Cup of Tea... Rusty by Doris Cheong. Digital Supplies: Cocoa Kisses by Tina Chambers (digitalscrapbookplace).

Journaling: Rusty was a stray kitten, we adoption him when he was only a few days old. He has 2 other of his own kind as his playmates. He disliked chilled milk, and don’t you put any liquid in his biscuits. He didn’t like to be supervised when he is doing his private business in the toilet. He's a joy to the family of 2-legged and the 4-legged.

Design note: I enhanced the photo using blending mode.s

Give Me the Catnip or Your Life by Doris Cheong. Digital Supplies: Page kit from Smartie Partie by Suzanne C. Walker, Photomask from Lauren Bavin, Gun from Kim Liddiard (digitalscrapbookplace).

Journaling: Fluffy and Rusty were having an argument. Not a good picture but I like the scene captured.

Editor’s note: Oh, you know it’s right up my alley! What’s scrapbooking without loosening up, letting go and adding in a little humor once in a while? Try it; it’ll be a success, especially if you can scrap humor with as much class and flair as Doris does!

Design notes: This layout was made entirely by using the quickbits/photomask.

A Meow Massages the Heart by Doris Cheong. Digital Supplies: Photomask from Lauren Bavin (digitalscrapbookplace).

Journaling: His name is Fluffy, like the other 2 pets we have, he was stray, I rather give homeless kitty a chance for a decent life than buying a pet from the shop. He brings so much love and fun to my household. He's also the most gentle and trusted me 100% with his life.

I reside in sunny Singapore, an island near the equator. While I currently still hold a job, I plan to delicate my time to the homeless 4-legged animals on retirement. My hobbies include digital scrapping and photography (my cats are my main subject), Latin and country music, and reading.  This is a picture of me with Jingle.
