Theodor Seuss Geisel, commonly known by his pen name Dr. Seuss,
enchanted generations of children and adults alike with his
words and illustrations. He created characters that have
been brought to life in television, film, and even a Broadway
musical. Several of his beloved characters--Cat in the
Hat, Grinch, and Horton--are attributed as the best recognized
literary characters of the last century.
Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2, has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association.
In past years, Google has changed their logo for the day to pay
Dr. Seuss' books are often the first read and best loved
of children. His bold illustrations, unique rhymes, and
timeless messages will continue to inspire future readers.
