Congratulations to Marcia Dehn-Nix, our spring cover girl!  We adored how she mixed so many elements into cohesive layers.  Marcia used a variety of techniques in interesting and subtle ways to create a stunning layout.  Thanks for sharing, Marcia!

You, too, might see your creation on the cover, but you have to submit first! All items submitted to article calls are looked at, and the top eye-catchers are chosen by our Editors and put in a voting poll for our crew to select the cover winner. So get those layouts, cards and projects in everyone!

Take a second look at our front cover.

Wags and Whiskers by Marcia Dehn-Nix

Supplies: Paper: Quick Quotes Dreamscap, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Chipboard: Quick Quotes, Alphabet: Pebbles Inc., Alphabet Stickers: Simple Stories, Ribbon: My Mind's Eye, Paint: Delta Gleams, Specialty Paint: Gesso, Ink: Quick Quotes, Thread: Coats and Clark, Fonts: Jester, Other: transparency, pen.  Tools: Sketch: by Abby Laubenstein for The Paper Variety (thepapervariety.blogspot.com), Software: Microsoft Word,  Punches: Sizzix, Border Punches: Martha Stewart, Sewing Machine: Brother, Stress Tool: Imaginisce.

Design Notes: This is how I like the finish the chipboard pieces, the butterflies were first painted with gesso (wings) and acrylic gold paint (body). Once dry, I blended a variety of the Powderpuff chalk inks on the wings just by dragging the ink pad over the gesso on the chipboard. I heat set this and then stamped swirls on the wings and finished by adding a little more contrasting chalk ink to the tips of the wings. I heat set it again to prevent smudging. A little gesso under the vellum allows the pattern of the paper to show through but makes it easier to read the journaling. (Don't apply the vellum until the gesso is dry).

Journaling: Why We Foster Pets 1. We Love animals ! 2. Too many dogs and cats are euthanized every year. We know we can't save them all, but we can give some of these animals a second chance. 3. Home care is less stressful on pets than a shelter. 4. We get to choose who our foster pet will go to, so we can match the pet's personality to the perfect family. 5. Who couldn't love a face like this!
