Tisket-A-Tasket
It is the start of a fresh New Year; you have survived the rush of the holidays and checked off your “To Do” lists. Now it’s time to get yourself geared toward your goals for a fresh start and twelve new glorious months. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? How about documenting your memories with a 2012 Scrapbook? It doesn’t have to be complicated; you could even take one photo per month and make one layout per month for 12 months. You can even categorize your 2012 scrapbook still further by choosing one person in your family - then by the end of the year you will have a perfect gift for that special person.
There are many choices when planning out a layout for your 2012 scrapbook, but again no sense in making your busy life complicated. How about “scrap lifting” some of your old pages? Why not? By simply changing papers and embellishments but keeping the same template you will have a fresh new page. So let’s not re-invent the wheel, but just “refresh” our old ideas and update them for a bright New Year.
The layouts below are an example of reviving an old idea and making it new. Weaving paper, ribbons or cardstock has definitely been done before. However, by adding some newer techniques to an otherwise old idea, you can revitalize your layout and update it for a fresh new 2012. I love the way Daphna laid out her weave at a diagonal making her mix of black, white and green stand out without too much distraction from her photo. Irit’s layout below proves you can “mute” your colors by adding a simpler background and subdued colors. I love the balance and subtlety of Dana’s layout as she weaved all in monochromatic colors.

Yours Always by Daphna Barbalat
Supplies: Paper: Recollections, KI Memories, K & Company, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Die Cuts: My Mind’s Eye, Stickers: Design Originals, Charms: Creative Imaginations, Brads: Recollections, Ink: Tim Holtz, Versa-Fine, Embossing Powder: Stampendous, Markers: Copic, Other: ribbon, flowers. Tools: Border Punches: Martha Stewart, Stamps: Inkadinkado, Impression Obsession.
Design Notes: I love this photo of Brian the way his eyes shine through this photo holding our family cat. I decided to weave a background for my layout but with a twist and turn my weave on the diagonal for a graphic look.
Journaling: Yours Always.

Happy You by Irit Shalom
Supplies: Paper: Pretty Little Studio, Tags: Pretty Little Studio, Cardstock: Tim Holtz, Alphabet: Glitz Designs, My Mind’s Eye, Ribbon: May Arts.
Design Notes: Sometimes when your photo is almost monochromatic, you can use the shiny, even Valentines colors on your page and it's still not too messy. I decided to make a weave matting from about 5-6 different, but the same line, papers to mat my DD photo from her Thailand vacation and to use only one huge handmade embellishment, made with paper, ribbon and one single vintage tag. Tim Holtz Kraft cardstock was just perfect for this layout even without any coloring. Finally this was a very frugal page with a minimal supply list, but still full of happiness.
Journaling: 2010 Thailand.

Remember The Hugs by Dana Tatar
Supplies: Paper: Fancy Pants Designs, Alphabet: American Crafts, Flowers: Prima, Pearls: Kaisercraft, Envelope: Maya Road, Paint: Ranger Industries, Ink: Clearsnap, Other: chipboard.
Design Notes: I folded paper strips together into small mats for a fun base for my page. I tucked some journaling into the envelope about how I hope my girls will remember the good times they had together as children when they are older.
Journaling: Remember the Hugs.
